KAWALYA KAGWA

She was married to Mr Michael Kawalya Kagwa, himself a Katikiro of Buganda in the late 1940s. Mr Kawalya Kagwa was, in turn, the son of Sir Apollo Kagwa, the greatest Katikiro of Buganda from the late 1890s to 1926. Mrs Kawalya Kagwa was the first Ugandan African woman to drive a car, she got her driving permit in 1927.

Their children:

1) Mrs Harriet Kibukamusoke – she lives in Uganda and had been married to the late Mr Shemmie Kibukamusoke.

2.) Dr Joanita Nyanzi – she is a medical doctor and lives in Los Angeles. She had been married to the late Mr Semei Nyanzi, who was probably the most powerful Ugandan businessman in the 1960s. He was the Chairman of Uganda Development Corporation (UDC).

3) Dr Mary Kiwuwa Musoke  – she is a dentist and lives in the United States. She had been married to the late Mr Kiwuwa Musoke.

4)Mrs Flora Kulubya – she was a nursing sister and lives in Los Angeles. She had been married to the late Mr Sam Kulubya.

5)The late Mr Michael Kawalya Kagwa Jnr – Idi Amin killed him in 1971. He was a lawyer by profession and was probably the richest black Ugandan at the time of his death. He was the first Ugandan to have a TV in his car in the late 1960s and also owned a small plane that he used to fly to his farms. He used to export agricultural produce to Europe daily. He was also the President of the Uganda Industrial Court.
